Self-Assessments
GEM has detailed experience in the conduct of self-assessments, surveys, audits, and inspections in all disciplines of safeguards and security (protective force, program management, physical security, technical security, personnel security, information security, cyber security and material control and accountability). We are a recognized source for the conduct of oversight reviews and, coupled with our vulnerability analysis capability, offer a comprehensive analysis of protection system compliance and effectiveness.
Our first-hand experience in the conduct of oversight activities has required us to develop assessment and inspection processes, tools and procedures, and compliance checklists, as well as, assessment plans and detailed assessment reports containing recommendations and evaluations of proposed corrective actions to include electronically tracking all corrective actions. We use that experience base to assist our customers in preparing for the conduct of self-assessments and other reviews (independent inspections, Federal surveys, General Accounting Office and Inspector General audits and reviews, etc.) and to assure compliance and performance against Federal and corporate security requirements. GEM is experienced in the conduct of root cause and trend analysis to identify systemic non-compliance and performance issues from all oversight reviews. This permits focus on trouble areas during future self-assessments and other oversight reviews and permits security awareness training to be immediately directed to the trouble areas.
The conduct of assessments/inspections/surveys and other reviews requires full policy and operational knowledge by GEM staff of critical systems such as Integrated Safeguards and Security Management, Operations Security, security education/awareness, cyber security (Red Team analysis/investigations, computer forensics), Foreign Ownership, Control and Influence, technical security (TEMPEST, communications security, Technical Security Countermeasures [TSCM]), material, control and accountability, physical security systems, personnel security programs (Human Reliability, counterintelligence polygraphs, security forms processing, personnel security interviews and investigations), protective force training, testing, and response, classified matter protection and control, and incidents of security concern. This knowledge base includes the conduct of independent assessments and inspections for the operation of policy and tracking data bases, Operations Security planning and assessments, development of security education training materials and media, presentations, conduct of physical fitness training and testing of the protective force, operation of personnel security related systems such as badging, automated visitor control systems, administering effective security education and awareness programs, and the operation of classified document and sensitive information databases and systems.
